Minecraft continues its charge onto new systems with the announcement of a European launch on Vita on October 15. 4J Studios, the UK team responsible for porting the sandbox game into North America, tweeted that there is no confirmed date as of yet.
The portable version of Minecraft can be purchased cross-buy with its PS3 counterpart, which means that if you've already bought the game on PSN for PS3 it is possible to purchase it for free on Vita, and vice-versa. The developer Mojang has stated that the asking price was $20 for PS3. Saves can be transferred between PS3 and Vita and DLC purchases can be made on both versions.

At the time, Mojang said it was working with Sony to "look into ways to allow upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita." We've reached out to Sony to inquire if those who have Minecraft on PS3 Blu-ray are also able to play the Vita version for free. We are still waiting for date of release for the Vita retail version. Next week's launch will be limited to PSN.
It's still a bustling time at MinecraftHQ, which is now Microsoft following the $2.5 billion acquisition of Mojang and its popular games. After its launch on the current-gen consoles' online storefronts, Minecraft has its PS4 version on the shelves as of this week. The Xbox One disc version will be available in US stores starting November 18. [Image: 4J Studios]
